In our garden we have designed and built the ‘Music and Marvel Area’ which is sensory delight in a cherry blossom. Mirrors, Tibetan singing bowls, cowbells, diatonic bells and a tree full of coloured lights make this an area for quiet peaceful relaxation, sound exploration or noisy musical experimentation!

We have also built an outdoor teaching space known as the ‘Butterfly House’. This little log cabin provides a quiet space away from the noise of the nursery floor for small group work and activities. It is the perfect for base for nature experiences such as growing vegetables in our planting garden or mini beast hunting.

Outside the nursery building we have a lovely lawn which we share with our neighbours. We use the lawn for sports classes, picnics and any other activities which might require a bit more clear outdoor space. We also have a buggy park and area for bikes and scooters to be safely locked up. Although we discourage driving to nursery there is space for cars to drop off and pick up when necessary.

The main garden is used by all the children in all weathers. It is safety surfaced throughout and has two wooden climbing structures which are fully supervised when in use. In the Big Garden we have three birch trees, a cherry blossom tree and three fruit trees, plus a planting area where the children grow their own flowers and vegetables from seed. Playing feely outside in nature is every child’s right, and the natural environment creates many learning experiences because it is always changing, therefore there are always new things to discover. Playing outside also helps enormously with children’s wellbeing and self-regulation and provides endless opportunities for inquisitive and imaginative play.
